Colorado Soccer Embarks on Pac-12 Road Journey

EUGENE, Ore. – The Colorado soccer team is set for its first road test in Pac-12 action as it continues its farewell tour of the conference. The Buffaloes will kick off the week facing off against Oregon before concluding the trip with a matchup against Oregon State.

Colorado (8-2-0, 0-1-0) is entering a contrasting phase of the Pac-12 season. Having dropped their opener to No. 5 UCLA last Friday, the Buffs are now poised to challenge an Oregon Ducks squad still seeking their first win of the season.

This marks the Buffs' initial extended road journey of the season. They currently hold a 2-0 record away from Prentup Field, boasting victories against New Mexico and Denver.

Head coach Danny Sanchez remarked, "Whenever you embark on a road trip, especially as it's our first significant one this season, attention to detail becomes crucial. We're eager to hit the road and face Oregon and Oregon State. Past results aside, it's all about what lies ahead. This presents a significant opportunity for us to regain our winning form and hopefully build momentum as we delve deeper into the Pac-12 schedule."

In their previous outing against UCLA, CU displayed resilience with Shyra James' goal in the 61st minute narrowing the deficit to 2-0. With a more favorable bounce, they might have been in contention for a draw or even a comeback win.

Sanchez reflected, "Despite being down 2-0, we had some promising phases of play. We need to capitalize on that momentum and carry it forward with confidence while maintaining defensive solidity. Two road games present a new challenge for us this season, but we've had a productive week of training, and we're eagerly anticipating the upcoming contests."

Colorado's offensive contributions have primarily flowed through Shyra James, who leads the Pac-12 with 17 points. She has netted goals in four consecutive matches and six of CU's last seven contests. Senior captain Rachel Rosen has played a pivotal role, providing assists for James' last three goals and rising to third on the team with five points.

While the Buffs have leaned on James' scoring prowess, it has been 213 minutes since a CU player, other than James, has found the net with a non-penalty kick goal.

Sanchez concluded, "I believe several players within our squad have the potential to shine this season. We are well aware of Shyra's capabilities. However, there have been some commendable performances that have lacked the final touch. With half of our season remaining, we remain confident in our players' ability to bolster our attacking presence."
